Questions & answers.
Everything you may want to know about our coffee, shipping and brewing rituals.
The coffee
All our coffees are single origin. Every blend comes from the same high-quality Costa Rican region, but each has its own unique character created through different processing methods.
Costa Rican coffee is world-renowned for its bright acidity, clean cup, and balanced sweetness. Thanks to the nutrient-rich volcanic soil, high altitudes, and ideal climate, the beans develop complex yet approachable flavors with excellent clarity. Costa Rica also has very strict quality standards and focuses almost exclusively on Arabica varieties, resulting in smoother, more flavorful coffee compared to many other origins.
We roast and pack our coffee right after ordering to ensure maximum freshness. Whole beans stay fresh for up to 1 year, while ground coffee is best within 8 months. We recommend using ground coffee within 2–4 weeks for the best flavor.
Yes, all our coffees are grown using organic practices. Only our Pure Organic blend currently holds official certification. We actively support and help our 192 farmers work toward full organic certification for all farms.
Our coffees are 100% Arabica, which naturally contains less caffeine than Robusta. A medium roast offers a well-balanced caffeine level. Light roasts have slightly more caffeine, while dark roasts have slightly less.
Flavor notes (such as citrus, honey, chocolate, or caramel) describe the natural aromas and tastes you may experience. They don’t mean anything is added to the coffee — they come from the bean itself, influenced by variety, soil, altitude, and processing. For example: - Citrus = bright, refreshing acidity (like orange or lemon) - Honey / Caramel = natural sweetness - Chocolate / Cacao = rich, roasted notes These are tasting suggestions to help you choose the blend you’ll enjoy most.
The main differences come from the processing methods after harvest: - Washed process; cleaner, brighter, more acidic cup. - Natural / Dried process; fruitier, sweeter, fuller body (e.g. Natural Sunset). - Honey process; omewhere in between, often with nice sweetness and complexity. - Other factors like fermentation time also influence the final flavor. Each blend is crafted to give you a different taste experience.
Not at the moment. Our current range consists only of regular caffeinated specialty coffees.
Nocturna Drip is a premium specialty coffee, not mass-produced commodity coffee. Our beans are handpicked from small farms in Costa Rica’s Nicoya Blue Zone, processed with care, and roasted in small batches right before shipping. This results in far superior flavor, freshness, and quality compared to supermarket coffee that is often roasted months in advance and stored for long periods.
We source single-origin micro-lots directly from 18 family farms across Costa Rica. No blends, no commodity coffee. Every bag is traceable to a single harvest, roasted to order within 48 hours of shipping.

Brewing & storage
It’s really a matter of personal taste! All our coffees work well with every brewing method. We recommend trying different blends to discover your favorite. Many customers enjoy Morning Canopy and Golden Nectar for filter/pour-over, and Midnight Cacao for espresso.
- Keep it in its original bag (with the one-way valve) or transfer to an airtight container. - Store in a cool, dark place (not in the fridge or freezer). - Avoid air, light, heat, and moisture; these are coffee’s biggest enemies. - Grind only what you need right before brewing for the freshest taste.
Absolutely. All our coffees are suitable for every type of espresso machine, from manual to fully automatic.
A medium grind works best for most brewing methods. The finer the grind, the stronger and more intense the coffee. A coarse grind is ideal for French press or “cowboy coffee”.
